My Thoughts on Singapore vs. Philippines Friendly

Due to my intermittent internet connection, I was not able to broadcast (via Twitter) my thoughts on the Lions vs. Azkals game last night. But since, I have internet at this moment, here are my thoughts:

1. Singapore is beatable. Even if the Lions won by 2 goals to nil, I think they were beatable. Their defense was poor for the most parts of the game.
2. Cagara-Lucena-Borromeo-Jonsson, My  new favorite back 4.  Okay, I also like Anton del Rosario and Rob Gier, too. But for so long since the dark, early stage of the formation of the Philippines’ National team, then, a small band of fans clamored for Cagara, who then played for German Bundesliga side, Hertha Berlin. Yesterday, on his first cap for the Philippines, he was doing well. Aly, well he is solid as a rock. Lucena, excellent ball distribution. Ray Jonsson, my cousin, (we are related.) is as always consistent. I also like his understudy, Leonora, who plays for San Beda. He has a knack of overlapping runs with Chieffy and has better positional play than *ahem* Gael Clichy.
3. Possession Football. We can play that game. But what is frustrating is that we kept kicking it towards our opponents feet. Call me a spoiled brat of possession football, but that’s the key to win.

4. We can play any kind of formation. 4-4-2. 4-5-1, 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-4-1-1, you name it, we can play it. With such depth and potential in national pool, it’s possible to play this.

5. Anywhere the Azkals play, it seems to be a home game. Because of this Pinoy diaspora, any team that comes to their adopted countries and represent the home nation will surely gets the support. Man, the Pinoys are so noisy, I felt they were playing at Rizal Memorial.
